Student clinic fees are about one-third of what a private dental office charges.
When it's open
Phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Appointment times are limited and follow the students' class schedule.
New student-clinic appointments open only at certain times of the year.
Will they take me?
Adults and children 5 and up. Students do the work and a licensed dentist checks it. For ongoing care, a dentist first checks whether your needs fit what the students can do. Adults with complex medical needs can be referred by their doctor. People in severe pain can use the urgent care clinic.

- Fill in your medical and dental history in the online patient portal before the first visit
- Your needs must fit the students' training; the dentist decides at the assessment visit
- Adults with complex medical needs: your doctor sends a Medical Data Form first
- A parent or legal guardian must come to a child's first visit
- For urgent care, bring a list of your medicines and your doctor's contact details
- Treatment may be stopped if you cancel or miss appointments again and again
- Dental hygiene clinic (cleanings and gum care): a screening visit first, to see if you are a suitable teaching patient

How to get in
Call 713-486-4000 and choose option 2 to book an assessment visit. Fill in your health history online first. A dentist examines you and takes X-rays to see if students can take your case. Most people find out at the end of the visit. If you are accepted and nobody calls within 30 days, call 713-486-4249. For urgent care, call 713-486-4000, option 1, and leave a message.

Paying
Cash, Money orders, Major credit cards.
Does not take insurance. You pay in full at check-in and can use your receipt to claim from your insurance yourself.
What they do
- General adult dentistry (exams, cleanings, fillings, crowns, etc.)
- Pediatrics
- Patients with special needs: adults with complex medical and/or physical needs
- Urgent Care Clinic for patients in severe pain or with signs/symptoms of a dental infection
- Resident (graduate) clinics also take patients, at fees that average about two-thirds of private-practice fees: endodontics (root canals), advanced general dentistry, oral & maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics (braces), pediatric dentistry (birth to 17), periodontics (gum treatment) and prosthodontics (crowns, bridges, implants, dentures)
- Dental hygiene students complete assessments of patients' oral conditions
- Services aimed at preventing and treating periodontal disease
- Assess patients' risk of oral disease and educate them on ways to improve and maintain good oral health
